Trouser suits are making a comeback this season, and a great trouser suit is always a versatile outfit to have in your wardrobe. This autumn/winter shoulders are pronounced and trousers tailored, while waists are defined…a perfect combination.
At Ralph Lauren suits were is a classic Price of Wales check and at Calvin Klein long jackets were teamed with slim leg trousers. At The Row suit jackets were oversized, and Alexander McQueen the tuxedo was given a 2017 twist with a waterfall drape from below the pocket on one side of the jacket.
There are some great trouser suits available in the shops at the moment, and they can be worn in different ways to give you a variety of outfit options. I’ve picked five, and will show you how to style them so you can take you from work to a party.
This fabulous red trouser suit is from M&S. Head to toe red featured in Max Mara’s catwalk show, and is right on trend for autumn/winter 2017, so team the trouser suit with red ankle boots, also from M&S, for a striking day time look, or with black heels, a clutch bag and faux fur black collar for a gorgeous evening time look.
Purple is a fabulously rich colour, and looks chic and expensive, and this Zara suit looks more like a designer piece than something from the high street. Wear it with black ankle boots, a scoop neck top and chunky scarf during the day, or team it with a lacy camisole for dinner out with friends.
Prince of Wales check is a classic fabric that lends itself beautifully to sharp tailoring, and this trouser suit is from Monsoon. The jacket is a very reasonable £79, and as metallic fabrics are also a big look for autumn/winter 2107 I’ve teamed the trouser suit with silver boots from M&S and a silver bag from Debenhams. The pink scarf also from M&S adds a great pop of colour.
This dove grey suit from Next comes with slouchy, relaxed trousers, which would look great worn with a chunky jumper, big scarf and brogues, or for a classic look, team the trouser suit with a crisp white shirt, a tote bag, and court shoes.
Velvet is a fabric perfect for dressy occasions and this fabulous velvet suit from Boden has party outfit written all over it. I’ve styled it with a black camisole, and leopard print bag for a night out, but don’t limit yourself to just keeping this for evening wear. The trousers would look great teamed with an oversized jumper and ankle boots, or the jacket could be worn with a scoop neck top and black jeans for daytime wear.
A great suit will always be a piece that will work hard for you in your wardrobe, but before you rush off to the shops to buy one, consider carefully the colour and style that will give you maximum versatility. If you’ve had your colours analysed buy a suit in one of your neutral colours, so that your existing skirts, trousers and dresses, as well as tops will all work with it.
